“LAVA!!!” By Elise Rumpf

Elise will be showing a 15-minute video created by the guys from Ph.D. comics (www.phdcomics.com). The video highlights her research on LAVA!!!

Elise grew up in Buffalo, NY and did her undergrad in physics and geology at SUNY Buffalo. She moved to Hawaii in 2007 and earned a PhD in Geology and Geophysics and a certificate in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance in May from UH Manoa. She’s currently figuring out what’s next and is open to job suggestions! 🙂

“Feeding behavior of skates and rays” By Samantha Mulvany

Sam did some work on the anatomy of batoids (skates and rays) and how that relates to the way they feed.  Some rays have lobes on their head that aid during feeding, while others lack these lobes.  She investigated a range of species with and without lobes to determine if there were any differences in the way that they feed.
Sam recently graduated from the University of South Florida with a PhD in Biology.
